Day 1425 – 1427: Cuzco Impressions

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Aug - 16 - 2014

After some considerations the plan was now clear; I would take the bus to Cuzco, visit Machu Picchu, and then come back to Puno and continue to cycle from there.

This would mean that I could meet up with my friend Patrizia who would also be in Cuzco at the same time. After some hard cycling through Bolivia, a bit of a social holiday away from the bike didn’t seem like a bad thing at all.

The 8 hour cramped bus ride from Puno to Cuzco was hard enough in itself – probably because I choose the absolutely cheapest bus ticket I could find. Even though I was looking forward to a break from life on the road, I’m not about to sell my bike and continue by bus. In general I’m happy enough to be a cyclist.

Cuzco would soon turn out to be an amazing place. By far the most impressive city I have visited in South America. A good place to be lost in the narrow streets – lost in space and lost in time – as long as you didn’t expect to have the place for yourself. The tourists were out in huge numbers.

The white houses reminded me of Andalusia – of walking the narrow streets of Albayzin in Granada. Another place where I have many happy memories from.

I enjoyed the lazy lifestyle including the cappuccinos, the good food, and other pleasant things Cuzco had to offer. A social break was indeed not a bad thing at all…
