Day 2007, Khondowe – Karonga: As Cheap As It Gets

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on May - 01 - 2016

Distance: 95.2 km
Ride time: 5:11:24
Average: 18.3 km/h
Max speed: 45.0 km/h
Total: 48378 km

I had arrived in darkness at my guesthouse last night – this morning I realized I’m in a very beautiful spot!

The road twisted it’s way around the small bays along Lake Malawi. Then a bit up and down as well. Since I’m now all the way down at lake level at 400 meters, the temperature was a good deal higher than I have been used to for a while. Of course you could always jump in for a swim!

It’s always nice to see little signs of home when you are far away – especially a sign like this.

After a few more hours of absolute first class cycling along the lake, and I arrived at my small town for the night.

The first guest house I found was 13000 kwacha – a bit steep for my taste. The next place was full, and the third place I tried was 1000. I would actually have preferred to pay for a little more comfort as this 1.5$, claustrophobic, fan less room was as basic as they get. Oh well, better luck tomorrow!

  1. What a wonderful looking place! It’s always nice seeing something of home, wherever you may be. 🙂

  2. It seems you’re having much more luck, with border crossings, on the new route you’ve chosen. 🙂

Btw, you haven’t added in your daily GPS logs over the last few posts. Out of battery charge?
