Day 2043, Jinja – Busia: Scratching The Surface of Uganda

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Aug - 11 - 2016

Distance: 115.1 km
Ride time: 5:53:34
Average: 19.5 km/h
Max speed: 45.4 km/h
Total: 50728 km

After a couple of super interesting days spent visiting the Ananda Marga orphanage in Lugazi it was back to business today; 115 km of rather fast cycling along Lake Victoria towards the border with Kenya.

I was able to catch a few views of Lake Victoria as I was leaving Jinja, but I can’t say that I have explored much of this famous African lake even though I have kind of cycled half way around it. Oh well, it seems to me that Lake Malawi and Lake Tanganyika look more interesting, so I think it was a good strategy to spend more time there.

I arrived in Busia an hour before sunset, just as the daily shower was about to hit. I could have crossed the border and spent the night in Kenya, but I opted for a final night in Uganda. I have only scratched the surface of this country, but first impressions are certainly positive; safe, super friendly people, and exotic tropical landscapes. Would really love to come back here.

Tomorrow Kenya!

One Response so far.

  1. Was it a shower or a thunderstorm? Looks a little more than shower clouds. 🙂
