Day 8: Berlin – Slubice

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Oct - 12 - 2010

Distance: 104.2 km
Ridetime: 5:41:013
Average: 18.0 km/h
Total distance: 602 km

It was both hard and easy to leave Berlin. Hard because I would have liked to stay longer, but easy because the weather was great and I was feeling recharged after some very nice days there.

After having watched the football game between Germany and Turkey with the  New Zeelanders last night i was on the bicycle at 10 o’clock.

As the sun set over the Oder river I crossed the border into Poland for country number 2 on my tour.

There is always something special about border crossings but EU and the Schengen takes away some of that exotic feeling – now the border is just a sign on the road.

However, the language changed. In Germany I was always able to at least get my point across in German, but now I basically don’t understand a word. I might as well get used to it because I don’t think that feeling will change before Australia.

Now I’m looking forward to get to know Poland better.
