Day 27: Cluj – Blaj

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Nov - 03 - 2010

Distance: 103.88 km
Ridetime: 5:36:00
Average: 18.5 km/h
Total distance: 1957 km

The day began with a cold morning which soon turned into a warm day with full sunshine. With such fantastic weather I decided to go cycling and save the glider flight for another time.

One of the things a like about cycle touring is that you can really see the chance of the landscapes. Today I rode into a very dry part of Romania reminding me of Andalusia in Spain.

Stopping for lunch in a small village I got a quick talk with a police officer who was very interested in the trip.

I was not sure about accommodation in Blaj, so I rode around asking for prices at the 3 hotels in town. The cheapest was a boring looking motel, but the big old communist era hotel in the town center was only marginally more expensive. I checked in there just for the experience: think heavy dark carpets and curtains, and a dangerous looking elevator.
