Day 132: Hyderabad

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Feb - 19 - 2011

Paddy had originally booked me a sightseeing trip to see all of Hyderabad in a single day. I have to admit that I was not really sorry when the tour bus didn’t show up in the morning. A 10 hour sightseeing trip in a bus with other tourists stopping at every monument in town is not really my cup of tea.

Instead Paddy took me to two of the main sites – the beautiful and peaceful Birla Mandir temple and the Charminar in the Islamic part of the town. The later was a fascinating visit – walking through the Islamic center brought back many memories from my days in the Middle East.

In the evening Paddy had set up another meeting with more friends. This time we would be going out to the old English Club. The club has a dress code. As I’m only carrying T-shirts and slippers Paddy was kind enough to let me borrow a shirt and a pair of real shoes to be able to enter. As usual I was struggling a bit with the spicy food. At one point we were served chili in pastry. The Indians advised me to not eat the chili itself or as they said “it might take you right back to Denmark”.
