Day 167: Tak – Sukhothai

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Mar - 25 - 2011

Distance: 91.67 km
Ridetime: 03:47:29
Average: 24.2 km/h
Total distance: 7546 km

After two days of continuous rain, the characteristic sounds of raindrops hitting the roof suddenly stopped in the morning. I wasn’t slow to pack the cycle bags and hit the road.

Thailand surprises again. Cycling lanes like these makes you wonder if you are back in Europe.

As I was cycling through the country side an elderly couple on a scooter gave me a big smile and big thumbs up as they passed by. Such are the small things that make it all worthwhile.

In Sukhothai I checked into a nice place recommended a few days ago by fellow cyclist Fred. The first person I met there was indeed also a cyclist. Allan from Wales had cycled 10000 km in South East Asia but was now getting ready to fly back to the UK. Cycling touring in Thailand is more popular than anywhere I have been in Asia before.

I ended the day eating sushi from a small street stall. I will remember the price, 5 bhat (0.12€) a piece, the next time I have sushi back home in Copenhagen.
