Day 212: Kuala Lumpur – Port Dickson

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on May - 10 - 2011

Distance: 117.20 km
Ridetime: 05:21:51
Average: 21.8 km/h
Total distance: 10144 km

Cik Da, the local mountain bike rider I had met while cycling into Kuala Lumpur the other day was kind enough to also show me the way out again. First we went for a photo session in front of the impressive Petronas Twin Towers.

The 2nd of May is a public holiday in Malaysia so cycling out of the capital was a surprisingly relaxed experience. As I passed some industrial suburbs I even had a brand new four lane highway almost to myself!

In Port Dickson I was welcomed by Rabin and the local radio guys who had generously invited me to stay in their club house for the night.

Soon after I arrived a journalist from the local newspaper also showed up and we had a nice chat. Looking forward to see if it will result in an article.

The day ended with a large dinner. The food was delicious but also spicy. I have now learned to say “kurang pedas” meaning “less spicy” in Malay.

Thanks Rabin for the great welcome to Port Dickson. I really enjoyed my stay.
