Day 1231: Reserva – Vila Cerro Castillo

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Feb - 05 - 2014

Distance: 43.37 km
Ride time: 2:44:22
Average: 15.89 km/h
Total: 22539 km

It was very cold in the morning with ice forming on the outside of my tent. There are two ways to deal with this situation. You can either get up, pack the tent down as quickly as possible, and start cycling like crazy hoping there will a hill to climb to warm up. Alternatively you can stay in your sleeping bag drinking cups of hot tea waiting for the weather to warm up a bit. Today I choose the later.

Back on the bike the sun was out again, although it cannot have been more than 5 degrees. I was somehow able to enjoy the landscapes again even though I was looking forward to reaching Cerro Castillo where I was hoping to find a camp site.

Cerro Castillo was also the place where the rough dirt road I have been “enjoying” for the last 500 km would turn into a sealed road again.

After a quick descend I checked into a nice camp site and took a very long warm shower. That was just what I needed. I also talked with a local who said these temperatures are not normal at this time of the year. In a few days he said it would be 20 degrees again. I’m looking very much forward to that!

One Response so far.

  1. I day say, though, that the unsealed roads enhance the landscape. South America is looking amazing!
