Day 1248, Bariloche – Villa Angostura: The Arrival of Summer

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Feb - 22 - 2014

Distance: 97.38 km
Ride time: 5:42:14
Average: 15.77 km/h
Total: 23519 km

As we were getting ready to leave Bariloche, Jorge told us that we wouldn’t have to worry about the weather anymore; he had arranged summer for us from now on. Thus, with the sun shining we were rolling down from the beautiful house on the hill, feeling full of positive energy. Thank you for everything Jorge!

And the perfect day continued. As we were cycling along the Nahuel Huapi Lake it was hard to decide if we wanted to continue to cycle or stop at the beaches. Both options seemed equally attractive.
We were passing small villages full of summer holiday tourists. In those places I feel like I’m on holiday myself, taking it more easily trying to fit in with the atmosphere. Normally I don’t feel like a tourist at all.

As we reached Vila Angostura Michael jumped into the lake for a quick dip. I don’t think the water could have been much more than 10 degrees. Since living in Australia I have clearly lost some of my Viking blood. After being cold more or less every day since leaving Ushuaia I preferred to stay on land.

The only way to end such a day would be to camp on the shore of the lake. And so we did.
