Day 1507, Lima – Ancon: Endless Suburbs

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Nov - 01 - 2014

Distance: 59.17 km
Ride time: 3:31:36
Average: 16.77 km/h
Max speed: 47.15 km/h
Total: 29987 km

I wasn’t really expecting any nice cycling today as I would be leaving Lima cycling through the never ending suburbs to the north. I had indeed enjoyed my stay in Lima, despite the frustrations with the tent, and it was with mixed feelings that I packed my bags and left the hostel in the morning.

The first part of the ride towards the historical center of Lima was not that bad. I was even riding on a bike path for something like 10 kilometers.

In the northern suburbs the traffic picked up towards insane levels, and I had been right about my prediction from the morning; this was not nice cycling. The endless suburbs continued for all 59 km!

Finding a hotel was not a problem. They had been lining up along the Panamerican highway the whole day. I doubt they see a lot of tourists though. The main clientele seems to be local couples who need a bit of privacy – the rooms can also bed rented per hour.

Sometimes the man and woman coming and going are also obviously not couples… Oh well, the rooms are usually clean and good value for money, if a bit noisy at times.
