Day 1512, Catac – Huaraz: After the Climb

After a storm comes the calm, and after a climb comes the descend. It was an easy day rolling the 39 km down into Huaraz at 3000 m. And just as well, I was much in need of an easy day.

The downhill started above the tree line, but soon enough I was among fields and grass again. Donkeys, pigs, goats, and a whole lot of dogs were roaming around the small villages I passed. All very idyllic and a world apart from the barren landscapes down at the coast.

It is not only the natural surroundings that are amazing in Huaraz. The people are super nice as well – acting very different from the people down at the coast. I hear that people in the jungle are again a whole different mob, although I haven’t been down there myself yet.

Arriving before noon I had plenty of time to find a good and cheap hostel. I quickly got to know Andrew from Melbourne and a whole group of other backpackers. They all had arrived a week ago, planning to stay for a few days, but yet there were still in Huaraz. Another place that seems very hard to leave.
