Day 1621, Medellin – Santa Rosa: More Mountains

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Mar - 15 - 2015

Distance: 84.36 km
Ride time: 5:27:22
Average: 15.46 km/h
Max speed: 52.18 km/h
Total: 33633 km

Leaving Medellin I thought I had already completed most of the remaining climbing in the Andes mountains before descending towards the Caribbean coast. That was not really the case. After cycling through 30 km of rather ugly Medellin suburbs my road was not following the valley down… instead I was climbing straight into the green mountains once again. I’m used to it by by now.

After the three day break in Medellin I took it easy on the bike, enjoying my breaks at the road side restaurants along the way. Today they included a beautiful view over the green valleys below.

I’m now on the final stage of the South American adventure. Only 600 and some kilometers and I will be in Cartagena in the northern part of Colombia. What a ride it has been!

For the night I stopped in the village of Santa Rosa at 2500 meters above sea level. My small hotel room at the central square included 3 blankets. I guess the nights are cold up here.
