Day 1672, Rio Claro – Playa Uvita: Costa Rica Paradise Cycling

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on May - 24 - 2015

Distance: 106.20 km
Ride time: 5:38:21
Average: 18.83 km/h
Max speed: 54.36 km/h
Total: 35008 km

Wow, this was a cycling day as they should all be… easy cruising through a tropical landscape altering between rain forests and picture perfect beaches. The rumours that Costa Rica is a beautiful places certainly turned out to be true. It might also be touristic, but on the bike you mostly stay in random villages so you don’t notice it much.

So what’s the distance to Uvita, 42 or 35? Probably somewhere in between…

I had seen a picture of Playa Uvita somewhere on the internet. Sometimes you can’t really trust these tourist photos, but this beach turned out to be much more beautiful in real life. My photos also doesn’t do the place any kind of justice.

I considering camping on the beach until I saw this sign.

We are in low season which means that the guest houses next to the beach I checked out were pretty much empty. On the other hand it didn’t seem to be possible to talk to price down. Then I found a camp site for 3$ – good for the budget but it really is too hot to camp around here. I didn’t get much sleep, but I thought that being in a beautiful spot like this was worth to sacrifice a good sleep for.

  2. What a beautiful place! Somehow, though, I’m not surprised you wanted to sleep around crocs. What a shame, though!
