Day 2026, Kifura – Nyakanazi: A Thousand Hills

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on May - 30 - 2016

Distance: 122.0 km
Ride time: 7:55:02
Average: 15.4 km/h
Max speed: 50.0 km/h
Total: 49725 km

Good morning from a small guesthouse in the middle of nowhere in Africa 🙂

After breakfast at the same restaurant where I met Emmauel last night I was back on the dirt road cutting across this remote corner of Tanzania. And just like yesterday the morning hours would be fresh and clear, and the afternoon hours filled with rain showers.

The landscape is getting more and more hilly. This makes sense since I’m now getting close to Rwanda – the land of a thousand hills. Well, trust me… Tanzania has a few thousand hills as well 🙂

I knew it was time to enjoy the last day of remote dirt road cycling. Tomorrow I will hit tarmac again after 700 km of pure dirt. It has certainly been quite the adventure, and not something I would have been without. But, some days with a bit easier progress also seem like a good idea now.

With the last daylight I was rolling into Nyakanazi, a place that seems to be a popular stopover for the truck drivers as well. My guesthouse had hot water and a TV – a sign that I’m slowly getting back to civilization.
