Day 4: Güstrow – Wittstock

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Oct - 07 - 2010

Distance: 97.7 km
Ridetime: 5:40:01
Average: 17.0 km/h
Total distance: 346 km

I had a perfect night of sleep from my great wild camping spot near Güstrow.

Being in the former eastern Germany is really fascinating. A place that is so close to Denmark, but yet for so many years was considered the enemy.

Still a few signs on the road that reminds me of home.

The Radweg Kopenhagen – Berlin that I was so glad to have found yesterday let me down today. Suddenly it transferred into something I would describe as a bad dirt road through a forest. At the worst parts I had to walk since my bike is not build for dirt roads. So goodbye Radweg, it was nice to know you as long as it lasted.

I also had my first encounter with another cycle tourer today. Simon was a 31 year old German who had been cycling from Bavaria and was heading for the Baltic coast.  We chatted for a while and then continued down the road in opposite directions.
