Day 122: Yallapur – Hubli

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Feb - 13 - 2011

Distance: 68.84 km
Ridetime: 3:40:29
Average: 18.7 km/h
Total distance: 5121 km

My hotel for the night was located next to a school. In the morning I woke up to this nice sound.

I had originally thought that Hubli and Hampi were two names for the same place – like Bombay and Mumbai. As I saw another road sign stating 200 km to Hampi, I realized this was not actually the case. Two cycling days more and I should arrive at the real Hampi.

An interesting difference between India and the Middle East are the dogs. When I passed a stray dog in Turkey it would go completely crazy, start barking, showing teeth and in many cases start chasing the bicycle. Compared to their Turkish counterparts, the Indian dogs are pure angels. Most of them hardly notice as a pass by.

Since I left the coast, the landscape has changed dramatically. Up here on the plateau the palm trees are mostly gone. I’mriding in flat terrain with a few rolling hills. In certain places the landscape even reminds me of Denmark.
