Day 148: Srikakulam – Palasa

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Mar - 10 - 2011

Distance: 82.24 km
Ridetime: 04:09:27
Average: 19.8 km/h
Total distance: 6461 km

Sarat from yesterday had arranged a press meeting in the morning. Suddenly I was surrounded by a journalist, two photographers and even a cameraman from the local TV station. I’m used to people taking photos of me, but I was a little overwhelmed by the TV camera. Hope everyone got what they came for.

The surroundings are once again getting very rural. I’m passing villages entirely consisting of clay houses. Obviously no electricity. The water comes from the well in the center of the village. Life in these places can’t have changed much the last thousand years.

At my hotel the guy in the reception thought Denmark was a small state in Northern India. Even after showing my passport I’m not sure he understood I was from another country. In general people look confused when I say I’m from Denmark. If I add “in Europe” it sometimes helps, sometimes not. One guy replied with “Oh yes, I know the European Ocean”.

By the way, the price for the simple but clean room was 60 rupees or slightly less than a euro. A new record for the trip.
