Day 837: Bermagui – Lake Tabourie

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Jan - 22 - 2013

Distance: 147.26 km
Ridetime: 7:25:08
Average: 19.8 km/h
Max speed: 52.8 km/h
Total distance: 17814 km

In the morning I woke up the the sound of waves and not rain on my tent. After a few hours of cyclingthe sun was even shining again – the way I’m used to in Australia.

I was happy that the weather showed itself from it’s best side, because I had made an appointment with my friend in Sydney, and with the rain yesterday I was now a little behind. I also have a flight to New Zealand that I need to catch!

Riding those 147 km wouldn’t have been as hard if the landscapes were flat, but every kilometer on this stretch of road going up to Sydney is either up or down. The climbs are not long, but they are steep, and you will have to do a lot of them during the day.

I passed some very beautiful beaches and enjoyed lunch and dinner breaks on some of them. Most of the time when I cycle it is all about the road and less about the destination. Today however, with my appointment and flight from Sydney in mind, it was probably more about reaching the destination than enjoying the landscapes. That is OK for a day or two, but in general I don’t like to be busy on the bike.
