Day 838: Lake Tabourie – Kiami

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Jan - 22 - 2013

Distance: 122.73 km
Ridetime: 6:21:58
Average: 19.3 km/h
Max speed: 45.2 km/h
Total distance: 17937 km

My tires usually last between 3500 and 4000 km. It is now 3700 km since I left Alice Springs , and I’m starting to pay the price: Two flat tires today. I will need to look for new ones in Sydney.

The flat tires meant about 2 hours of interruption to an otherwise nice cycling day along the Tasman Sea up to Sydney. Sometimes the road would leave the coastline and go inland. As soon as it happened the landscape would be noticeable more dry.

I also passed a stretch of forest that had been burned recently in one of the bush fires that have been such a big problem in Australia.

As I’m still behind my schedule I would have liked to cycle a little longer, but with some luck I should still be able to reach Sydney tomorrow.

I was reaching Kiama just as the sun was setting. As I was looking for a place to put up my tent I was quite proud of the fact that I had wild camped every night since Melbourne. At the same time I was also looking forward to sleep in a real bed tomorrow.
