Day 2168, Tarrega – Organya: Last Night in Spain

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Jan - 08 - 2017

Distance: 75.9 km
Ride time: 4:25:18
Average: 17.2 km/h
Max speed: 58.7 km/h
Total: 55440 km

I had heard from other cyclists that wild camping works great in Spain. Now, after trying it for a night in the foot hills of the Pyrenees I can confirm – a very nice and peaceful night out here.

On the menu today was more of what we had already got a taste of yesterday; old medieval villages and dry farm lands with the mountains approaching out there in the distance.

Down at the coast we always had the option to jump into the Mediterranean if temperatures became too high. Up here in the highlands we luckily passed a lake at the hottest time of the day. Nice and refreshing to go in for a quick swim.

The first touch of the Pyrenees – truly beautiful cycling up here. We are now both pretty excited to get to know the tiny mountainous country of Andorra which we will cross into tomorrow.

For tonight we ended up in the charming village of Organya, complete with a tiny square and a camp site with nice views over the valley. A great place to spend our last night in Spain after exactly a month in this country that we both like so much.

  1. In that video, what’s that to the right of the tunnel? A side ride?

  2. Hi Stephen! That’s a road that goes around the tunnel – safer for cycling but sometimes they would be closed mid way…
