Day 152: Bhubaneswar

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Mar - 11 - 2011

In the morning I went to the bus station. I wanted to rest the legs and take a bus the 60 km to Konark and the famous Sun Temple.

At the bus terminal I met Lyndon from Australia. Quite a surprise since I have not seen any other tourists for weeks now. Even more surprisingly was that we quickly discovered we are both taking the same plane from Calcutta to Bangkok next week. While Lyndon had planned some relaxing days at the beach I still have 400 km to cycle. After our quick chat we jumped in each our bus and said “See you in Calcutta airport”.

This was the first time I was taking a bus in India on this trip. The Indian driving style doesn’t feel less crazy from inside a bus compared to what I experience daily on the bike. Actually I’m more comfortable cycling as I do at least have some kind of control over the situation.

The Sun Temple of Konark is known for it’s erotic figures. India also wasn’t a boring place to be 1000 years ago!

After another nerve breaking bus ride back to the capital I met with a group of radio friends in the evening. Thanks for the drink and the chat!

Tomorrow its back on the bike for the final 400 km strech up to Calcutta.
