Day 1530, Naranjal – Guayaquil: Back in Bangkok

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Dec - 17 - 2014

Distance: 97.71 km
Ride time: 4.37.02
Average: 21.16 km/h
Max speed: 30.71 km/h
Total: 31775 km

Guayaquil is the biggest city in Ecuador, and the financial powerhouse. As expected the traffic increased as I got closer. So did the temperature – over 30 degrees, hot and humid. As I crossed the Rio Guayas I really felt I was back in Bangkok; the same weather, and the same layout of a modern city next to a big river.

I had been looking forward to arrive in Guayaquil as I will be meeting some interesting people here. The first one to meet, as I opened the door to my hostel, was Matthias from Austria.

We last met in Arequipa where we climbed the 6057 m Chachani mountain together. Matthias’ way to prepare for the climb was to get seriously drunk the night before. He didn’t look too well in the morning when we woke him up, but a few hours later he was leaving us all behind on the slopes. No chance to keep up with these Austrians in the mountains…

Oh well, my stay here will not be boring then
