Day 41: Burgas – Kirklareli

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Nov - 14 - 2010

Distance: 121.11 km
Ridetime: 7:00:48
Average: 17.8 km/h
Total distance: 2889 km

The wind had died down somewhat over the night. Unfortunately what was left of it still came from the exact direction I was heading. That made the climb up to the border with Turkey even harder.

The border crossing was fast and smooth. The passport officer actually sounded like he meant it when he said “welcome to Turkey”.

And check out the road and see how much space they leave for bicycles! Good stuff!

On the Turkish side of the border it was all downhill into the city of Kirklareli. I’m not sure I had completely understood I had made it to Turkey before I entered the city and found myself in narrow streets leading to the front of a mosque. The sounds, the smells, the sights. Everything is different. I am indeed very thrilled to be here.

Wow! Amazing that everything changes just like that when you enter a new country. Great.
