Day 104: Dubai

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Jan - 18 - 2011

The flight from Luxor to UAE takes three hours so I didn’t manage to get a lot of sleep. As the sun was rising over the desert we landed in Dubai.

I was going to meet Fred and his wife Yee Li. After a few cups of coffee in the airport to wake up, Fred picked me up and we went to his house. Fred being British, I was soon served the big English breakfast. Possibly the most powerful breakfast I have had to date on my trip, and I wasn’t even going to be cycling.

After breakfast we headed into town to do some sightseeing. The worlds tallest building, the 828 m tall Burj Khalifa is surely an impressive peace of engineering.

Next up was a dinner at a nice Turkish restaurant with three of Yee Li’s friends. I joked that with all the food I had already been enjoying in Dubai, I would be able to cycle the first 500 km in India without eating.

A few hours later I was taken back to the airport to catch my flight to India. This would mark the final stage of the Middle Eastern part of my trip. Spending two months in countries such as Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Egypt and Dubai has been truly fascinating and can very much be recommended.

Thanks Fred and Yee Li for a great day in Dubai!
