Day 233: Krui – Krui

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Jun - 13 - 2011

Distance: 50.64 km
Ridetime: 02:16:24
Average: 22.3 km/h
Total distance: 11377 km

The idea today was to cycle 100 km along the coast to the next city. After 25 km the plan changed. As I cycled around a corner I heard a big bang from my back wheel. Normal flat tires are not that loud.

Sure enough, it was not a normal flat tire. This time the problem was a big cut in the tire itself. I have been cycling with an extra tire for a good part of the trip, but since I have never needed it I throw it away at some point. Now I would regret that decision.

As I inspected the damages by the road side, Armi invited me to sit on the bench next to his house and even bought me a fresh cup of coffee (he had picked the coffee beans himself!). I was able to temporary fix the tire so it was ridable, but I also new that I wouldn’t be cycling back across the mountains towards Jakarta on a half broken tire. At the end I decided to turn around and head back to Krui. The next big city where I expect to find a bicycle shop is 300 km away. I guess I will have to look for a bus tomorrow.

Of course, being stuck in Krui with it’s beautiful beaches is not such a bad thing after all.
