Day 238: Jakarta

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Jun - 13 - 2011

I had come to Jakarta with two important goals in mind. First I needed to extend the 1 month visa I got when I entered the country. Next I needed to find spare parts for the bicycle. I was already pretty tired from the cycling on Sumatra, so I was happy to arrive in Jakarta on a Friday afternoon. This meant I could relax over the weekend limiting myself to a bit of sight seeing and saving the more practical tasks for Monday.

The park around the National Monument seems to be a popular place for Jakartians to spend a Saturday afternoon.

It was also the day of the Champions League final. The two popular sports in Indonesia are football and badminton, and people always know more European players than I do. At the hotel I had met two guys from England and we decided to watch the game together. Due to the time difference it started at 2 o’clock in the morning. Luckily no cycling tomorrow.
