Day 279: Katherine – Mataranka

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Sep - 25 - 2011

Distance: 131.22 km
Ridetime: 07:05:14
Average: 18.4 km/h
Total distance: 13325 km

Yesterday I was still not sure whether I should stay longer in Katherine and look for work or continue south. My mind and body would prefer to cycle (I’m effectively addicted to cycling by now) but my bank account needs attention as well. After I talked to two German guys who explained how easy it is to find work in Alice Springs I quickly made up my mind. Back on the road.

As I packed my bags I couldn’t find my phone charger. Normally an irritating thing to loose but as I’m not really expecting any phone coverage for the next 1200 km I guess it doesn’t make a big difference anyway.

The head wind that has been a challenge since I came to Australia was still out in force. Otherwise I was feeling all happy on the bike. Mataranka 90 km south of Katherine is known for it’s hot springs. As a cyclist you would never miss the chance for a free shower, but this one was a certainly a nice one.

Another 30 km of cycling and I found a great spot to put up my tent as the sun was setting. Only 1100 km to Alice Springs now.

In regards to money, it’s a shame Patreon wasn’t around at that time! Could have reduced the pressure on your bank balance!
