Day 855: Wanaka – Lake Hawea

I woke up to another beautiful day on the South Island of New Zealand. I have really been lucky with the weather here – another perfect day to go hiking and enjoy the Southern Alps.

The hike up to Roys Peak was easier than the hike I did at Mount Cook. I also tried to walk rather slow as I wanted to preserve energy for the cycling the next days. The view were not less astonishing.

Enjoying the view over Lake Wanaka. At 44°S this will be the southernmost point of the trip! From here on it is only north, north, and more north until Denmark!

After coming down from the peak I went to the supermarket to stock up on food. The next days I will becycling through some of the more remote parts of New Zealand.

Every night I seem to think that I have found the perfect camp spot and it can’t get any better. But then, the next night I will magically find a spot that seems even more perfect than the night before.

Good night from Lake Hawea.
