Day 1692, Cañas – La Cruz: Pura Vida

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Jun - 02 - 2015

Distance: 109.2 km
Ride time: 6:12:45
Average: 17.6 km/h
Max speed: 45.4 km/h
Total: 35478 km

Reaching the northern parts of Costa Rica, the landscape is turning more dry – very different from the otherwise super lush and green country I have been cycling through ever since entering this beautiful country.

I don’t think they get much rain here so I didn’t have any afternoon rain shower to look forward to. It was hot! Luckily I passed a McDonald’s in the city of Liberia. Air condition and Wifi – a good combination for a cyclist.

I had a vision to reach the border with Nicaragua today, but then I was hit by a very strong head wind. Not of Patagonian dimensions, but close… Interestingly enough it is a long time since I remember the wind being a big issue.

I made it to La Cruz just before sunset after a big climb. They have a beautiful view over the Pacific from up here. Also easy to see where the wind comes from!

It is only a short 20 km ride to the border, so this will be my last night in Costa Rica. Pura vida indeed, what a nice time I have had here. The only reason I’m looking forward to reach Nicaragua is the fact that it is much cheaper. I hope to be back in Costa Rica one day when I’m more rico 🙂

One Response so far.

  1. There really is a big difference in the greenness (or absence of) of the countryside!
