Day 1726, Bacalar – Carrillo Puerto: The Jungles of Yucatan

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Jul - 11 - 2015

Distance: 115.6 km
Ride time: 5:26:27
Average: 21.3 km/h
Max speed: 33.5 km/h
Total: 37591 km

I left my beautiful camp site by the 7 color lake early in the morning and headed inland towards the town of Carillo Puerto.

This part of Mexico is really desolated. In fact I don’t remember seeing more than a couple of restaurants and kiosks the whole day. What a saw was plenty of straight roads and low jungle bushes and trees by the road side. It is also completely completely flat. What a change from the mountains of Guatemala last week ago.

The Yucatan peninsula might be one of the most visited areas in the world, but the tourists obviously don’t come to Carrillo Puerto. I think I was the only one around town. Tomorrow I hope to make it to Tulum – there the tourists will surely be back.

Beautiful indeed! Most tourists don’t know what they’re missing out on.
