Day 1759 – 1763: Raleigh and Ocracoke Island

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Sep - 04 - 2015

“Do you want to go for a ride today?” was what Will asked me one morning – and by that he meant a ride on his airplane. Of course I sad yes.

It would normally take 6 hours to go from Raleigh to Ocracoke Island by car and ferry. On a plane it’s a 45 minute ride. I was happy to get to see this part of North Carolina, the outer banks, as well. For a moment I had considered cycling through (relying on ferries) but in the end I opted for the inland route through Virginia, Washington D.C and Philadelphia. I didn’t expected to come out this way on an airplane, but on this kind of adventure you never know what tomorrow will bring…

After touch down we went to Ocracoke Oyster Company, a place owned by Will’s friends, for a delicious lunch. Then it was time to have a look around the island itself.

Most people out here drive around in golf carts or on bicycles. A unique place indeed, and a place which I liked a whole lot.

A quick 45 min flight later and we were back in Raleigh once again.

The next day we decided to take part in the NAQP radio contest. Nate N4YDU joined in as well to complete our little M/2 team. 1600 contacts, a few beers, and a lot of fun later it looks like we ended number 2 in the contest.

A huge thank you to Liana and Will for the 2nd stay at this beautiful place. Looking forward to see you again soon!
