Spain, Spain, Spain – you just keep it coming don’t you. Gotta say the country is turning into one of my favourite cycling countries; the deep blue Mediterranean, the wild mountains, the natural parks, the historical cities…

After saying goodbye and thanks for the nice stay to Diego we followed the beach out of Castellón. Then we found an old rail track converted into a running/cycling path, complete with great views over the sea. Does it get better than this?

Then it was time for a bit of adventure. The road we followed went around the Sierra de Irta national park, but Google Maps suggested it would be possible to cycle through. We didn’t know the state of the road which turned out to be pretty rough, but it was all worth it!

The path through the National Park twisted its way into the mountains and out to the coast again, providing some pretty spectacular views.

Then the old fortress city of Peñíscola appeared out there in the distance. Located on a tiny peninsula overlooking the Mediterranean, the popular tourist destination really looked tempting to go exploring. However, as we also had to look for a campsite we decided to leave the exploration for tomorrow morning. Always good to have something to look forward to.

It’s my first visit to this part of Spain and I think everything is pretty impressive. Now let’s see what kind of Mediterranean surprises tomorrow will bring.
