Day 202: Georgetown

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on May - 01 - 2011

Distance: 36.93 km
Ridetime: 02:14:33
Average: 16.5 km/h
Total distance: 9538 km

After breakfast I went cycling with Marius from Holland. We had set our mind on Penang Hill, a climb just outside Georgetown leading up to a monastery. Marius, who is a retired teacher, spends 2 months every year cycling somewhere on the planet. This year his ride is from Bangkok to Singapore.

Somewhere on the climb Marius had lost his wallet. Luckily it only contained a limited amount of money and no credit cards. When we returned half an hour later after lunch, a guy was waiting next to the road – with the wallet in his hands. In how many countries would this happen?

In the evening I joined Laura from England and Eric from Germany for dinner in Little India. I ordered Masala Dosa, the same dish I had been eating at least once a day on average during my two months in India. With an authentic chai to finish the meal the food reunion was almost getting emotional.

The day finished with a fascinating silent thunderstorm. No sounds, no rain, but a lot of lightning.
