Day 811: Wellington – Salt Creek

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Dec - 23 - 2012

Distance: 98.70 km
Ridetime: 5:58:43
Average: 16.1 km/h
Max speed: 32.6 km/h
Total distance: 16113 km

After just 9 km of cycling in the morning I met Lukas from Germany. His cycle trip started in Brisbane and his plan is to cycle all around Australia. A trip of about 15.000 km. Quite amazing since I’m “only” at 16.000 these days. Australia is huge.

As I was once again fighting a head wind I opted for a long lunch break. I stopped for three hours in Meningie and spent the time updating the blog. The first two hours I spent in a coffee shop. At that time the owner of the shop let me know that he was not too happy about costumers using his electricity. Luckily my batteries was charged by then, and I relocated to the lake front.

During the rest of the day I followed the Coorong inland lake. It was beautiful cycling, and I was really enjoying the smell of ocean after so long in the outback. For the night I found a nice spot to pitch my tent, right at the shore of a salt lake.

It had been a clear day and I knew the weather forecast mentioned a very cold night, down to 5 degrees at some places nearby. I don’t think it got much below 8 at my camp spot, but I was still wearing all my clothes (which is not that much) to keep warm.
