Day 818: Apollo Bay – Geelong

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Jan - 08 - 2013

Distance: 102.48 km
Ridetime: 4:59:54
Average: 20.5 km/h
Max speed: 46.2 km/h
Total distance: 16895 km

When you wake up at the beach and feel a nice steady wind in exactly the right direction you know its going to be a good cycling day. And so it was!

During the first part of the day the road clung to the cliffs making up for more spectacular views. I felt like stopping and taking photos every time the road turned, but at some point I had to just continue in order to make any progress.

I have really been impressed by the Great Ocean Road. I have cycled other nice stretches of roads on this trip but not continuously for 200 km.

On the last beach before Geelong the wind got very strong.

For the night I was going to meet Freddie and Guy from www.abikejourney.com. We first met 1½ years ago in Singapore. Guy and Freddie had since finished their own trip and settled in Geelong. We had many cycling stories to share. Thanks for a great evening guys!

Waking up on the beach, cycling the Great Ocean Road with a tail wind, and meeting old friends for BBQ in the night. Can it get any better than this?
