Day 1242: Esquel – Leleque

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Feb - 20 - 2014

Distance: 102.72 km
Ride time: 6:17:27
Average: 16.32 km/h
Total: 23242 km

Leaving Esquel we were once again joining the famous Route 40, the road that follows the Andes Mountains for 5000 km through the length of Argentina. Compared to the Carretera Austral in Chile, the landscapes over here are completely different; no more rain and green valleys, but very dry and very windy.

Route 40 welcomed us back with a tailwind for the first half the day, something we were not really expecting. One should never celebrate too early, and as we made a turn the speed slowed to the usual 8-10 km/h. Oh well, at least we were on sealed road so the bikes were not suffering anymore, only the riders.

Even though cycling alone can have some advantages it felt great to be traveling with Michael again. How nice to have someone to share the whole experience with. In the evenings after setting up the tent, it is also somehow more comfortable to be two.
