Day 1318, Hualfin – Pie de Medano: Win-Win

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Jun - 04 - 2014

Distance: 48.82 km
Ride time: 5:02:11
Average: 9.73 km/h
Total: 26564 km

I had camped just outside Hualfin, so in the morning I biked in for a coffee and croissant at the square. After enjoying my breakfast I had a quick look at the beautiful 1770 Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Rosario. I really like the small villages out here next to the mountains.

Yesterday the road had been climbing almost the whole day, so I thought I would be close to a pass. Today the road kept climbing, and just to spice things up I was encountering a strong head wind as well. My goal these days is to make 100 km of progress, but today it was clear that it was just not going to happen.

At a hard stretch of road a car suddenly stopped. A friendly Argentinian couple came out and asked if they could take a photo. We had a quick chat where I mentioned that I thought Argentina was a very big country. As they continued on they gave me a large plate of chocolate. A true win-win situation 🙂

A little before sunset I finally reached what I was hoping was a pass at 2600 m. I enjoyed half an hour of downhill cycling before the sun was disappearing behind the mountains and it was time to put up the tent again.
