Day 1752, Savannah – Yemassee: Into The Woods…

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Aug - 18 - 2015

Distance: 80.6 km
Ride time: 3:43:29
Average: 21.7 km/h
Max speed: 36.7 km/h
Total: 39089 km

After saying goodbye to Jason who was going back to work at the Art College, I was making an early morning trip to the big Bonaventure cemetery. I think I have said it before, but I just love this typical southern landscape with the Spanish grass on the trees.

When I tell people about the trip, the name Forrest Gump seems to come up now and then 🙂 In fact, the bench where Tom Hanks sits down to tell the story is located in this very park in Savannah. I even got to tell a few people about my trip as I had a little break there this morning. Life is like a box of chocolate. You never know what you are gonna get…

Back on the road I was passing my 39000 km mark shortly before crossing into South Carolina. I should reach 40K shortly before Washington D.C which will be a big milestone.

The rest of the day was nice and quite as I was cycling through some very rural parts of South Carolina. In fact I think most of SC is rural, although I will be visiting the city of Charleston tomorrow. People tell me it is just as beautiful as Savannah which makes me looking much forward to be there!

For the night I was considering staying at one of the KOA camp sites, but when I learned that the price to put up my tent for a night would be over 30$ I changed my mind. Instead I cycled a mile further up the road and went a few hundred meters into the woods from the road. My sleep was just as good as it would have been at the camp site, and then it was free.

One Response so far.

  1. You should have asked for a part in the movie, Thomas. 🙂
