Day 2151 – 2156: The Barcelona Break

Posted by Thomas Andersen Posted on Jan - 03 - 2017

I last saw my sisters for Christmas 2015 before I flew to Cape Town. Now we were all reunited in Barcelona where we had rented an AirBnB apartment in the suburb of San Andreu. Once again, sleeping in a real bed and having access to a kitchen, warm shower, washing machine, and a fast internet connection felt like pure luxury.

I have been to Barcelona a couple of times before and really like the city even though the amount of tourists is reaching some kind of a limit.

I love the old Gothic Quarter with its narrow streets and hidden secrets.

And of course, the beach is right there in front of everything. Barcelona is certainly a place with a lot of things going for it.

While not checking out the city center and surroundings I got a chance to catch up with old friends – among them Roger EA3ALZ and his father Ramon EA3AVV who I met in Ibiza back in 2006. Thanks for a great visit guys! Roger actually lives in Switzerland which means we will get a chance to meet again in a few weeks time.

Most important was of course to catch up with my sisters and introduce Manon to them and my two year old nephew Calle – yes, his name means “Street” in Spanish. I realize I might not be completely objective here, but I think my nephew is the cutest two year old I have ever seen 🙂

Manon was busy with a camera – great photos smukke 🙂

It was almost a year since I had seen Calle and even though I have Skyped with my sisters during my time in Africa I was pretty much a stranger when we met in Barcelona. That’s the price you pay for travelling the world. Luckily, after a week together I was “Uncle Tom” again.

Too soon Manon and I boarded the 7 hour train back to Murcia where our bikes were waiting for more Spanish adventures.
